E72 | Kieran Read

Episode summary | Kieran Read

Kieran Read is an All Blacks legend and a bloody great New Zealander!

He is the third most capped All Black in history, has won numerous titles including two Rugby World Cups, and was named the world’s best player in 2013.

Kieran shares the foundations of his leadership style from his days growing up in Counties Manukau. Memories of watching a golden generation from that province and the pride in getting the opportunity to represent them in the twilight of his career.

We go behind the scenes of the All Blacks environment, get an insight into the ‘freak of nature’ that is Richie McCaw, and get taken through the fallout of the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan campaign, and what it’s like to be at the front of the haka.

Kieran talks about recovering from injury and playing through pain, as well as sharing some lighter moments from his career including the first time he met Richie Mo’unga at Owen Franks’ wedding - and why he choked him out, and his greatest sporting achievement during the Black Clash!
