E127 | Cori Gonzalez-Macuer

Episode summary | Cori Gonzalez-Macuer

Cori Gonzalez-Macuer is a kiwi comedian who has been performing his unique brand of self-deprecating, observational, and deadpan humour since 2003.

But underneath the light there is dark, and this episode deals with strong themes of mental health.

Cori tragically lost his dad to suicide in 2013 and was first on the scene at their family home to find him. He has since wrestled with feelings of blame, guilt, and pain since his passing. We’re so grateful of Cori being so vulnerable in sharing his life with us – his messages to those going through tough times are incredibly powerful.

We talk through the dark and the light and hear Cori’s story in full including his role as one of the stars of Taika Waititi’s breakout comedy What We Do In The Shadows, his stand up act and how it helps his healing, and his love of writing.

Cori is an incredible human, and the love receives reflects the love he projects to his friends and family.
